LITFILI WEEK 2

The two stories that were presented, The Mats and Divide by Two, both by Francisco Arcellana both showed traits present in Filipino Families. Between the two stories though, The Mats showed more good Filipino Values. In the story, the father shows a typical Filipino attitude about respect for the dead. This is present because Filipinos always give respect to their departed loved ones. We visit them at least once a year (All Souls Day) and give them gifts so they will know that we still remember them. The story also shows equality among children, typical in a Filipino Family. I think Divide by Two also shows Filipino Traits. Being Hospitable and friendly to the neighbor is a sign of Philippine Culture. A bad trait though that is seen in the story is how we can be "chismoso" about other people's lives. So to sum it all up, I think both stories were able to show an equal amount of traits present among us.

but have you ever noticed that sometimes, when someone died, it's only when we show our true feelings for them? it's olny when we realized how much they mean to us? hmn.. maybe that was the reason why the father in the story can't get over with the lost of his chldren???? cause he didnt have the chance to bond with them often and showed how much they mean to him cause he was always away?? -- kaya kung kelan wala na tsaka siya magiinarte ng ganun? ano pang sense? haha! think im being so mean na. haha!

and reg the 2nd story, yeah i agree with you, filipinos are so chismoso and chismosa talaga. i think all of us really do have that kind of trait even if we don't admit it. everyone does, even non filipino people. if i know, boys are more chismoso than girls. hahaha! come on migs, admit it!!! hahaha! just kidding. ;p

I like how maemae said that you'd only realize your true feelings for someone if he or she is gone.

"You'll never miss water til it's gone" - one of my favorite quotes.

pero alam natin na hindi tayo pwedeng mag-generalize di ba? dahil may mga tao na talagang nagpapakita kung gaano kahalaga ang isang tao sa kanila. buhay man o hindi, lahat ng bagay gagawin nila maipakita lang kung gaano kahalaga yung taong yun sa kanila. i can say my mother knows how much we love her. di ko man nabigay lahat ng gusto nya, di ko an sya nadala sa mga lugar na gusto nyang puntahan, at least nagawa nyang palakihin kami ng maayos and veri independent. although nakakabitin dahil ang aga nyang umuwi, ok na rin kasi di na sya nahirapan.
high-five! *PLAK*
